SOF IMO Class 7: syllabus, paper pattern and sample questions

The SOF International Mathematics Olympiad for Class 7 is a 60-minute paper of 50 questions for 60 marks in 4 sections. Every question has four options and one right answer. The last 5 questions are the Achievers Section, worth 3 marks each. Below: how the paper is set out, the 14 chapters it draws on, one sample question from each section with its answer, and how to practise it for free.

Paper pattern

Syllabus: the 14 chapters

Every question on the paper belongs to one of these chapters. On Sprinto's map each chapter is an island, and the Achievers Section is the same chapters asked harder — not a separate topic.

Sample questions with answers

One from each section, taken from Sprinto's own bank for IMO Class 7. In the app the numbers, names and figures are different every time; these are fixed so you can read them.

  1. Sample 1 · Section 1: Logical Reasoning · Figure Reasoning

Look carefully at the figure. Which of these shapes is part of it?

    Arrangement of shapes

    Answer: (A)

The figure is built from arrow, star, semicircle, triangle; the other three shapes are nowhere in it.

  2. Sample 2 · Section 2: Mathematical Reasoning · Expressions using Letter-Numbers

    Simplify: 3a + 6 + 3a − 11

    Answer: (A) 6a − 5

    The a terms go together: 3a + 3a = 6a. The plain numbers go together: 6 − 11 = -5. A number and a letter term can never be added.

  3. Sample 3 · Section 3: Everyday Mathematics · Simple Equations

Aditi scored 11 more marks than 2 times the marks Saanvi scored. Aditi scored 35 marks in all. Which equation gives the marks x that Saanvi scored?

    Answer: (A) 2x + 11 = 35

    2 times Saanvi's marks is 2x, and 11 more than that is 2x + 11. That equals Aditi's 35 marks.

  4. Sample 4 · Section 4: Achievers Section · Lines and Angles · Achievers difficulty

    In the given figure, LM ∥ PN. If ∠MOQ = (3x + 83)° and ∠OQN = (2x + 47)°, find the value of x.

LM ∥ PN (not drawn to scale)LMPNABOQLM ∥ PN (not drawn to scale)

    Answer: (A) 10

    ∠MOQ and ∠OQN are co-interior angles between the parallel lines, so they add to 180°: (3x + 83) + (2x + 47) = 180. That gives 5x = 50, so x = 10.

How to practise IMO Class 7 on Sprinto

  • One island per chapter. A hidden rating per chapter picks the next maths question at the difficulty that is just hard enough today.
  • Mistakes come back. Anything she gets wrong returns a few days later, then a week, then a month, until it stops being a mistake.
  • Mock tests in the real shape. 50 questions, 4 sections, 60 minutes, marked the moment she hands it in.
  • Papers you can print. A full IMO Class 7 paper with an OMR sheet, sat at the table with a pencil.
