SOF ISO Class 7: syllabus, paper pattern and sample questions

The SOF International Science Olympiad (formerly NSO) for Class 7 is a 60-minute paper of 50 questions for 60 marks in 3 sections. Every question has four options and one right answer. The last 5 questions are the Achievers Section, worth 3 marks each. Below: how the paper is set out, the 13 chapters it draws on, one sample question from each section with its answer, and how to practise it for free.

Paper pattern

ISO Class 7 is set out in 3 sections. Sprinto's mock tests and printed papers follow the same order, counts and marks.

Syllabus: the 13 chapters

Every question on the paper belongs to one of these chapters. On Sprinto's map each chapter is an island, and the Achievers Section is the same chapters asked harder — not a separate topic.

  1. 1.The Ever-Evolving World of ScienceSections 2 and 3 · "Science Start" on the map
  2. 2.Life Processes in PlantsSections 2 and 3 · "Green Grove" on the map
  3. 3.Life Processes in AnimalsSections 2 and 3 · "Animal Ark" on the map
  4. 4.Acidic, Basic and Neutral SubstancesSections 2 and 3 · "Litmus Ledge" on the map
  5. 5.The World of Metals and Non-metalsSections 2 and 3 · "Metal Mesa" on the map
  6. 6.Adolescence: A Stage of Growth and ChangeSections 2 and 3 · "Body Bay" on the map
  7. 7.Heat Transfer in NatureSections 2 and 3 · "Thermo Trail" on the map

Sample questions with answers

One from each section, taken from Sprinto's own bank for ISO Class 7. In the app the numbers, names and figures are different every time; these are fixed so you can read them.

  1. Sample 1 · Section 1: Logical Reasoning · Logical Reasoning

Which of the options completes the given figure matrix?

    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    Arrangement of shapes
    ?

    Answer: (C)

Along every row the number of shapes goes up by 2, and down every column by 2. The last cell therefore holds 10.

  2. Sample 2 · Section 2: Science · Changes Around Us — Physical and Chemical

Which method would you use to separate common salt from sea water?

    Answer: (D) evaporation

Evaporation works here because the water goes off as vapour and leaves the salt behind.

  3. Sample 3 · Section 3: Achievers Section · Measurement of Time and Motion · Achievers difficulty

A car goes 72 km at 36 km/h and then another 72 km at 12 km/h. What is the average speed for the whole journey?

    Answer: (A) 18 km/h

    The first part takes 2 h and the second 6 h, so the whole 144 km takes 8 h. Average speed = 144 ÷ 8 = 18 km/h — not the average of 36 and 12.

How to practise ISO Class 7 on Sprinto

  • One island per chapter. A hidden rating per chapter picks the next science question at the difficulty that is just hard enough today.
  • Mistakes come back. Anything she gets wrong returns a few days later, then a week, then a month, until it stops being a mistake.
  • Mock tests in the real shape. 50 questions, 3 sections, 60 minutes, marked the moment she hands it in.
  • Papers you can print. A full ISO Class 7 paper with an OMR sheet, sat at the table with a pencil.
